PROFILE
1/4
EBBA ARCHITECTS are a London based architecture and design practice with a passion for constructing high quality, materially conscious and socially engaged spaces. We create buildings, places and objects through collaborative processes and the close involvement of clients to help drive the development of all projects. Our work is defined by functional and elegantly crafted responses that employ inventive solutions to complex situations, always striving to test materials, construction techniques, proportion and form.

The studio is fascinated by an open-ended architecture that enables opportunities for performance and a freedom of use within space. We have experience of this on projects ranging from building & residential developments, to installations, exhibitions and set design with recently completed commissions in the arts, fashion, retail and education sectors across the UK, Europe and China. Projects we are currently working on include the Interpretation Plan for the renovation of St John's Church in Hackney, a Fashion Photography exhibition in Hong Kong, a photographer's studio, two private houses and a large extension to a children's nursery in Manchester.
PROCESS
2/4
EBBA ARCHITECTS have been recognised for delivering thoughtful projects across diverse scales and sectors bringing value and creative direction through a design-driven and experimental process. We have a track record of constructing unique spatial environments for galleries, art and cultural institutions, communities and the general public; with experience of guiding clients through the planning stages, project commissioning and construction.

We strongly believe that great architecture is the result of a good client relationship. We approach each project individually to develop a unique story and a result that reflects the shared interests and values of the people that will use them. Our collaborative research-led way of working encompasses a network of artists, makers and fabrication specialists who support projects in a continual search for particular spatial and material qualities.

This collective form of practice extends to teaching and making - at both a physical and theoretical level - which has become an important aspect of the work of the studio, able to test and explore ideas while allowing on-going investigations into the role of architecture in society.

Director, Benni Allan MArch PGDip ARB

Benni is a British|Spanish architect, designer and maker who works at the juncture of architecture and the visual arts. Prior to establishing EBBA, Benni worked on projects spanning the cultural, arts, higher education and residential sectors with architectural practices in London and China, including Niall McLaughlin Architects. Here he worked on the award-winning project for Jesus College and a library for Magdalene College in Cambridge, and a student housing scheme for Somerville College, Oxford. His forward-thinking experimental practice has attracted international attention since he graduated from UCL's Bartlett School of Architecture, earning him the award of 'One to Watch' from the British Design Council in 2015 and a shortlist nomination for RIBA's Rising Stars Award 2017.

Alongside practice, Benni is a Design Lecturer at the University of Greenwich and acts as an external critic at the Bartlett with past experience of leading courses for the Bartlett Summer School. He is also a Young Trustee of the Architecture Foundation, chair of the 'Part Four' lecture series and more recently became a RIBA Ambassador to teach workshops at schools in Hackney.
